Medicine Buddha Healing

Medicine Buddha (Menla) Practice, a Healing Prayer Ritual

The following healing ritual is derived from Tibetan Buddhism. I learned it from Dr. Jim Sacamano of Victoria BC. To use it, visualize the above picture at first while saying the first part “Hung.” (pause)

“Your body the colour of a mountain of lapis lazuli” up to … “I praise and pay homage to the Deity who holds the Precious Medicine.”

Then say the mantra while visualizing the people in need of healing.

Finally end with the “By this merit may all obtain omniscence … “, 5 minutes of silence and “By this merit may all obtain omniscence … “

Its oulined below …

Medicine buddha (Menla) Healing Practice

Say the following once …

“Hung. Your body the colour of a mountain of lapis lazuli

You dispel the suffering of disease from all Sentient beings

Your retinue of eight Bodhisattvas surround you.

I praise and pay homage to the Deity who holds the Precious Medicine.”

Say the following mantra 1, 3, 7, 21, or 108 times. Keep the people

in mind who need healing and visualize them receiving healing energy

from the Menla image.

Mantra

“TAYATA OM BEKENDZE BEKENDZE MAHA BEKENDZE RADZA SUMUNGATE SOHA”

Afterwards say the following …

“MAY ALL THE SENTIENT BEINGS QUICKLY BE FREED FROM SICKNESS AND

MAY THE SICKNESS OF BEINGS NEVER ARISE AGAIN”

Then sit in silence for 5 minutes.

Finally say …

“By this merit may all obtain omniscence

May it defeat the enemy, wrong doing.

From the stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death,

May all beings be freed.”

People are encouraged to be experimental and find their own ways of using the ritual.

Bodywork Healing form of Medicine Buddha Ritual

I created this healing ritual in about 2004, and use it for my “Harmonic Resonance Bodywork” Clients who have an interest in Buddhism. You can read further about Harmonic Resonance Bodywork which is a blend of the work of Dr. Milton Trager MD and Sufi Healing as practiced in the 1920s by Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Universalist Sufi from India.

http://harmonicresonance.org

It was created through a combination of the Sufi Healing Ritual and the Medicine Buddha Ritual above.

I place my hands on the heart of the client and and say:

“Hung. Your body the colour of a mountain of lapis lazuli

You dispel the suffering of disease from all Sentient beings

Your retinue of eight Bodhisattvas surround you.

I praise and pay homage to the Deity who holds the Precious Medicine.”

Then I say the mantra while still holding both hands over the heart of the client, repeating it 3 times:

“TAYATA OM BEKENDZE BEKENDZE MAHA BEKENDZE RADZA SUMUNGATE SOHA”

Standing on the clients left side I put both hands on the two sides of the client’s head and while continuously touching gently I sweep down their face, down the center of their chest and down the left side of their body to include their left arm arm and down their left leg to their left toes saying the mantra:

“TAYATA OM BEKENDZE BEKENDZE MAHA BEKENDZE RADZA SUMUNGATE SOHA”

I repeat this process two times.

Standing on the clients right side I put both hands on the two sides of the client’s head and while continuously touching gently I sweep down their face, down the center of their chest and down the right side of their body to include their right arm arm and down their right leg to their right toes saying the mantra:

“TAYATA OM BEKENDZE BEKENDZE MAHA BEKENDZE RADZA SUMUNGATE SOHA”

I repeat this process two times.

(note this corresponds to saying the mantra 7 times)

Then I return to heart, holding both hands over the client’s heart and say:

“By this merit may all obtain omniscence

May it defeat the enemy, wrong doing.”

Then I pause for 10 seconds and starting with the hands on both sides of the face I sweep down the body, down the centre of the chest, belly and down both legs to the toes of both feet using both of my hands … simultaneously with the one long sweep sometimes saying:

“From the stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death,

May all beings be freed.”

I skip this last line sometimes based on intuition and based on the client’s wishes.

I usually use this method for people who express an interest in Buddhism but sometimes I ask people if they want their healing session ended with a Buddhist ritual if they have a general interest in rituals.
